RD Angers, a RATP Dev subsidiary, has operated the Irigo network for Angers Loire Métropole since 2019. Since 2020, Pysae real-time AVM supervises the network's suburban lines and school routes, run by 250 drivers.
We cut customer complaints by 70%. Our drivers' trips are now better tracked and our passengers get real-time information, which has greatly improved their experience.
Who runs the Irigo network in Angers?
Irigo serves close to 300,000 residents in the 29 communes of Angers Loire Métropole: 3 tram lines, 17 urban lines, 14 suburban lines, 71 school routes, on-demand transport and paratransit. RD Angers runs the urban network directly (37 trams and 150 buses) and subcontracts the suburban network to 3 operators with 130 coaches: Transdev STAO 49, Voyages Audouard and Transports Voisins.
Why did suburban lines need real-time AVM?
Until 2020, service quality on suburban lines was rated unsatisfactory and well below the urban network. Two problems stood out:
- Supervision: trip departures were hard to follow, and dispatchers could not confirm that every trip actually ran.
- Passenger information: RD Angers was contractually committed to real-time information on chartered lines, but suburban passengers had no live departure times.
How does Pysae AVM supervise 250 drivers on suburban and school lines?
In 2020, RD Angers ran a tender for a new AVM system (SAEIV) covering suburban lines and school routes. It chose Pysae because it met all of its functional requirements.
- Service tracking: field data flows automatically to the control room, with the real-time location of every bus and coach in service.
- GTFS-RT feed: Pysae data is pushed automatically to the Irigo app, the regional Destineo app and the Irigo website.
- Driver assistance app: drivers follow their schedule in real time at every stop.
Results: 70% fewer complaints, 90% fewer human errors
Every trip is now tracked, and remaining anomalies are mostly hardware-related rather than human. Customer service saw a clear drop in calls and complaints, because passengers now have the information on their phones.
- 70% fewer customer complaints
- 90% of human errors eliminated
- 78% of buses and coaches on time at stops in 2022
